HASVC - HASBC

This Autumn 2016 HASVC will be on hold with no planned regular track sessions applied for. Instead a new BMX provision Hackney After Schools BMX Club - HASBC with be rolled out as an alternative. Dates and sign up information will be confirmed in due course.

The area's Go-Ride Outreach Coach (Russell Hampton) is set to pick up where HASVC left off with a new weekly session aimed at beginners and those seeking track accreditation. This is due to start this September and I'm told the fee would be £10.00 per session. This project is focused on developing young riders into LVV youth track league racers.

The last HASVC session for the Summer - Monday 27th June

The last HASVC session for the Summer is next Monday 27th June - let's make is a good one and leave the right impression.

A reminder that riders are not to cycle anywhere inside without a helmet and that they must walk with their bike coming in and out of the velodrome.

Also all hire bike and equipment must be returned to where is was collected, chairs put back and any litter disposed of.

One more; riders not listening and talking among themselves while coaches are giving instructions may well be asked to sit out the session.

That's it!

See you on Monday after school.

Keir

High attendance - HASVC staying the course

Thanks to attendees, volunteer coaches, family and the friends of HASVC.  We've been returning to high attendance and pretty much covering our costs - phew! On the back of this renewed interest and the steps taken to protect what we have, CC Hackney will be looking to renew it's contract will LVV.

Here's some pictures featuring three of our new track riders; Paige, Antony & Rhia (and mum)

Use it or loose it...

Calling all existing and would be young track riders of Hackney: Maintaining and keeping these sessions running is dependent on enough riders attending to cover the venue and block cycle hire costs. The coaches are volunteering, their fees waived for the cause.

Over the last two weeks there has been a significant drop off in numbers, where the shortfall is being shouldered by CC Hackney.

Hard facts leading to this appeal for your one and only after school track club session:

Use it or loose it

£5.00 for a Condor track bike and an hour of qualified CCH track training at the Lee Valley Velodrome, when or where or else will anyone find such a good offer?

Thank you and goodbye 'Young Hackney'

HASVC and all attendees would like to thank Young Hackney for the financial support that this Hackney Council department has given to the project up until now. Interlinkx CiC & CC Hackney will be looking for alternative backing but without this in place charges for participation will be required to cover costs.
On Monday 18th April we will be asking for a voluntary contribution and on going from 25th April there will be a 5.00 charge. This does include bike and helmet use, making the HASVC offer good value and a saving.

Other news:-
Accreditation has not been granted by LVV during our track sessions. However plans are afoot to meet the needs of our group under the management of British Cycling's Out Reach worker for the area; Russel Hampton.

Goodbye Young Hackney

Mountain bike experience at LVV

With the velodrome being restored for public use again (after the UCI World Track Championships) HASVC's group had an opportunity to get onto LVV's mountain bike trails. It is safe to say that every rider found this experience another cycling buzz to remember.
LVV's specialist MTB coach Jules Allen was on hand to lead the session which was much appreciated and four of CC Hackney's regular coaches assisted him. Five groups were organised by ability and all went out for an adventurous time on the well crafted single track routes. No accidents were reported and after debrief and learning reinforcements one question came back from the floor; 'when can we do MTB training at LVV again!?'

In answer HASVC will look at returning for special MTB & BMX sessions during the school holidays. For the next two weeks (14th & 21st March) it's track time again, we are back inside. But Monday 28th March there will be NO SESSION, yes let's all have a break, we deserve it:)

Photos from the Monday 29th February 2016

The last of our series of three BMX sessions took place yesterday evening. During this hour riders had time to practice competition BMX gate starts and 8-up races. Because of the great turn out again the track was kept busy with wave after wave of riders speeding over the course.
At the end coach Tai Suleyman reinforced what had been covered during training time together and took the names of ten riders keen to enter some BMX races this spring.

Next week we will be trying out mountain bikes on the ATB trails.

Instructor Tai Suleyman in action
Demo (young) man Meeshaq Malone leads the way

There was a very good turnout for our first of three in a row BMX training sessions with 28 young members riding the Olympic class BMX track, some for the first time. Our coach Tai Suleyman expertly instructed the group with the help of one of his experienced riders from Hackney BMX club; Meeshaq Malone's main role was to demonstrate good techniques to his peers. There were no falls or collisions, well done riders & staff, maintaining HASVC & CCH's excellent safety record.

Home work from Tai: study YouTube for good BMX techniques & skills.

Next week riders are going to learn how to do manuals and wheelies.

Thanks to Amelia French for the on track atmospheric actions pictures.

A New attendance record for HASVC

Last Monday HASVC broke a new attendance record 35 young riders signed in! Well done to all involved; that's riders, coaches, sponsors and supporters. We learnt from working with such high numbers; It was taking so long to get on and off the track and ready to go we were ending up loosing valuable track riding time. There fore next week we will be running two 14m sessions for each group. Fiddle about less, ride more:)

Brin making his mind known during the first 2016 HASVC session

CC Hackney coach Jevon Taylor's son Brin was seen holding forth track centre while the older HASVC group were getting down to serious training business up on the track.
All present (apart from Brin - he really is too small) were put through their paces during short but intense stints on the boards. They did lap gains in pairs, lap gains in groups of varying size and 'Sean's Game'* to finish. The stated aim is to make these sessions short but effective to start getting our riders ready for the new season starting in March.
Those set to race in 2016 were reminded to research and declare their race calendar targets in the coming weeks.
